Background of the study
Continuing education has emerged as a critical factor in driving technological adoption among small-scale entrepreneurs in urban centers such as Kano Municipal Local Government Area, Kano State. The rapid pace of technological advancement necessitates that entrepreneurs continually update their skills to remain competitive. In Kano, where traditional business practices have long dominated, integrating modern technology is essential for enhancing productivity, expanding market reach, and improving operational efficiency (Bello, 2023). Continuing education initiatives provide entrepreneurs with the necessary training on emerging technologies, digital marketing, and e-commerce strategies. Studies indicate that targeted educational programs enable entrepreneurs to overcome barriers such as low technological literacy and limited access to digital resources (Suleiman, 2024). The role of continuing education in fostering an innovative entrepreneurial culture cannot be overstated, as it contributes to the overall economic dynamism of the region. Educational interventions have been shown to facilitate the transfer of critical technological skills that empower small business owners to adopt and integrate new technologies into their daily operations (Olawale, 2025). Moreover, the adoption of technology through continuous learning creates opportunities for enhanced competitiveness in both local and global markets. This transformation is particularly crucial in Kano, where the economic landscape is evolving, and the need for digital literacy is increasingly recognized as a key driver of business success. However, despite these advantages, challenges such as limited access to training facilities, inadequate funding, and resistance to change remain prevalent. These challenges hinder the effective implementation of continuing education programs aimed at technological adoption. Therefore, it is imperative to examine the interplay between continuing education and technological uptake to identify best practices and areas that require policy intervention. The study also considers the role of government and private sector partnerships in facilitating technology transfer. As Kano continues to position itself as a hub for small-scale enterprises, the impact of continuing education becomes increasingly significant for sustainable economic growth. Through a comprehensive analysis of current educational programs and their outcomes, this study aims to provide insights into how continuing education can bridge the technology gap and foster a more innovative business environment (Bello, 2023).

Statement of the problem
Despite the recognized benefits of technological adoption, small-scale entrepreneurs in Kano Municipal face persistent challenges in accessing and integrating modern technologies into their business operations. Many entrepreneurs operate within traditional frameworks and lack the requisite digital skills to leverage technology effectively (Suleiman, 2024). Continuing education programs, though available, often suffer from inadequate reach, insufficient funding, and a curriculum that does not fully address the practical needs of business owners. These deficiencies have led to a significant technology gap, limiting the growth potential of small-scale enterprises in Kano. Furthermore, the rapid pace of technological innovation creates a continuous need for updated training, which is often not met due to resource constraints and the absence of tailored programs (Olawale, 2025). The disconnect between academic curricula and real-world business requirements further exacerbates the issue. This gap not only affects the competitiveness of individual businesses but also hampers the overall economic development of the region. Additionally, cultural resistance and fear of change among traditional entrepreneurs pose a significant barrier to technological adoption. The lack of awareness about the long-term benefits of integrating modern technology into business operations means that many entrepreneurs are hesitant to invest time and resources in continuing education programs. As a result, the benefits of technological advancements remain largely unrealized at the grassroots level. Addressing these issues is critical to ensuring that small-scale entrepreneurs in Kano Municipal can fully harness the potential of modern technologies. This study, therefore, aims to investigate the extent to which continuing education influences technological adoption among small-scale entrepreneurs, identify the barriers to effective learning, and propose recommendations to bridge the technology gap (Bello, 2023).

  • To recommend strategies for improving continuing education programs tailored to entrepreneurial needs.

Research Hypotheses

  • H1: Continuing education significantly increases the rate of technological adoption among small-scale entrepreneurs.

  • H2: Inadequate curriculum design in continuing education programs is significantly associated with low technological uptake.

  • H3: Improved funding and targeted training interventions will positively affect technology adoption in small-scale enterprises.

Significance of the study
This study provides critical insights into the role of continuing education in facilitating technological adoption among small-scale entrepreneurs in Kano Municipal. By identifying key challenges and proposing actionable strategies, the research informs policymakers, educators, and business associations on how to bridge the digital divide. The findings are expected to contribute to the design of more effective educational interventions that foster innovation and economic growth in the region (Suleiman, 2024).

Scope and limitations of the study
The study is limited to the impact of continuing education on technological adoption among small-scale entrepreneurs in Kano Municipal Local Government Area, Kano State. It focuses on evaluating existing educational programs and their outcomes, with limitations including geographical boundaries and variability in access to digital resources among respondents.
